Selection guide

This selection guide helps you choose an electric sit-stand desk from the Stadesks range. It does not replace the product page. The dimensions, height range, weight capacity, and features of the model you add to your shopping cart are the agreed-upon specifications. If you are still in doubt after measuring, please email your room dimensions to [email protected].

1. Measure the space before choosing a desktop

Measure the available width and depth on the floor, not just the wall. A chair must be able to move behind the desk. Allow at least 80 cm of free depth behind the front of the desktop if you want to sit and stand comfortably. A desktop that is 60 cm deep therefore leaves about 80 cm of extra floor space in front of the wall, plus the thickness of a baseboard.

Also, measure the height of the power outlet. The power supply for the base must reach an existing outlet without stretching a cord tightly across a walkway. A cable tray or cable management system, on models that include them, keeps cords under the desktop. It does not replace a new power outlet in the wall.

Note whether the workspace is in a corner. A corner is a situation where an L-shaped desktop provides more surface area than a straight desktop of the same wall width.

2. Choose the shape

Straight desk

A straight desktop is the simplest choice against a flat wall. The range includes compact desks of 100 × 60 cm and large desktops of 180 × 80 cm, alongside models in between, the dimensions of which are on the product page.

  • 100 × 60 cm. Suitable for a narrow room, a laptop, and one monitor. Do not place two large monitors side-by-side on it. The 60 cm depth is tight if you also want a keyboard, a notebook, and a lamp.
  • Around 140 to 160 cm wide. The standard size for one person with one or two monitors. Check the product page for the exact width of that model. Not every desk in the shop is 160 cm.
  • 180 × 80 cm. A wide and deep desktop for two monitors, paper, and a lamp. Only makes sense if the wall and chair space allow for that depth. A depth of 80 cm requires more floor space than a 60 cm desktop.

Corner desk

An L-shape uses two walls. The range includes electric corner desks of 140 × 160 cm and 160 × 140 cm. Place the longer side along the wall where the monitors are. Measure both sides, including the corner, and check if a door or radiator blocks the shorter side. Corner desks in the shop have power outlets or USB ports if the product title mentions them. Do not assume this for a straight desk that does not have those words in the description.

Frame only

If you already have a desktop, you can purchase an electric frame. The dual-motor bases in the range are often adjustable between 72 and 120 cm. The weight capacity is up to 100 kg or 120 kg, depending on the model. This weight includes the desktop plus everything on it. Some frames are also width-adjustable, allowing you to secure the desktop you already have. Read on that product page what desktop thickness and depth the frame accepts. A desktop that is too thin, too narrow, or too heavy is not suitable for that frame.

Side table

The adjustable side table on wheels, with a height of 65 to 102 cm, is an extra table to be used next to a sofa or desk. It is not a sit-stand workspace for a full day with two monitors. Do not buy it as a replacement for a desk of 140 cm or wider.

3. Check the height range

An electric desk is usable if the lowest setting is low enough for you to sit with your feet flat, and the highest setting is high enough to stand with relaxed shoulders. Many frames in the range go from 72 to 120 cm. This is stated on the product page for that model. A different model may have a different range. The side table goes from 65 to 102 cm and is therefore not a standing desk for an adult.

Measure your current sitting height: the distance from the floor to the top of a desk where your elbows form approximately a right angle. If that measurement is below 72 cm, a frame that starts at 72 cm will be too high for you to sit for long periods. Email us that measurement before you order. We will not steer you toward a model whose page shows a different range than what you need.

The range is a feature of the furniture. It is not medical advice regarding the posture that is healthy for you.

4. Memory settings, motor, and weight

Four memory settings, on the models that mention them, save the height at which you sit and the height at which you stand. This saves you from having to adjust it every morning. Without a memory function, the desk is still electrically adjustable, but you will have to adjust the height manually each time.

A dual motor, on the frames that mention it in the title, moves both columns. This is the version to choose when the desktop is wide or when the specified weight capacity is 100 kg or 120 kg. A lighter or smaller desktop can use the motor listed on that product page. Do not compare the weight capacity of one model with the motor of another.

Calculate the weight realistically: the desktop, two monitors, a laptop, a monitor arm, and books. If you stay well under 100 kg, a 100 kg frame is sufficient. If you are above that, choose the 120 kg model, if available on the page. Do not sit on the desktop to test the motor.

5. Connections and storage

USB-C, a power outlet in the desktop, a cable tray, a monitor stand, a drawer, or hooks are extras on certain models. The product title mentions them when they are included. A desk "with USB-C and cable management" is a different product than a desk that only mentions "4 memory settings."

USB-C on the desk charges a device that supports that connection. It is not a dock that automatically connects every monitor. A power outlet module in the desktop does not replace a grounded power outlet in the wall: the module itself must be powered.

Wheels, on the models that mention them, make the desk movable. They are useful if you want to clean the area or roll the chair completely under the desk. They do not turn the desk into a cart for daily movement around the house. Lock the wheels when typing, as instructed in the manual.

6. Color and desktop

Select the version on the product page. Depending on the model, these include oak, white, black, or brown, or a combination of desktop and frame. The photo corresponds to that specific variant. An oak decor is a finish on the desktop, not a solid oak slab, unless the product page explicitly states solid wood. A color on your screen may differ slightly from the actual desktop in daylight.

7. Desk with chair, or desk only

If you already have a chair whose seat height fits the new desktop, then buy only the desk or the frame. If you have nothing yet, there is a complete workspace available: electric desk plus ergonomic office chair. The chair in that set is the chair on that product page. There is no separate list of individual chairs in this selection guide. A gaming desk with LED, power outlet, and USB should be chosen when the workspace is intended for a monitor setup with lighting, not because the LED replaces the motor.

8. Checklist before you pay

  • The available width and depth of the room are larger than the desktop, with space for the chair.
  • The height range on the page overlaps with the sitting and standing heights you have measured.
  • The weight capacity is higher than the weight of the desktop and equipment.
  • USB-C, memory settings, dual motor, corner shape, or wheels are on that specific product page, not just on a different model.
  • You have chosen the version you want, and the price in the shopping cart matches that version.
  • You expect delivery in 7 to 10 working days, not the next day.
  • You can assemble the package with two people, or you have planned for help. On-site assembly is not included in the price.

9. After delivery

Keep the box until the desk is assembled and checked. Assemble according to the manual, using two people for a large desktop. Afterward, save your sitting and standing heights if the panel has memory settings. Report any missing parts with the order number and a photo before forcing any parts. Delivery times and receipt inspections are detailed under Shipping. As a consumer, you can withdraw within 14 days, and a 30-day trial period applies, as detailed under Returns.
